A richly layered study of burgundy, shadow and fractured gilding, Velours de Minuit moves between sweeping gesture and quiet architectural form.

Velours de Minuit is an expressive study in depth and movement, where saturated passages of oxblood and deep burgundy unfold against charcoal, carbon black and softly weathered mineral ivory.

Sweeping forms travel through the composition in broad, overlapping gestures, interrupted by quieter fields of pigment and restrained fragments of aged metallic leaf. Rather than sitting decoratively upon the surface, the gilded passages appear partially worn, buried and revealed—as though traces of an earlier layer have survived beneath the painting.

Each work is individually painted by hand in oil on fine Belgian linen, developed through successive layers of artist-grade pigment. Translucent glazing gives the burgundy passages their depth, while scraping, dry brushwork and selective impasto introduce variations in surface and light. Distressed metallic leaf is applied sparingly by hand and integrated into the painted composition.

Natural differences in brushwork, pigment, texture and gilding are inherent to the process, ensuring that no two works are precisely alike.

Presented within a slender, hand-finished antiqued bronze hardwood frame with a subtle shadow reveal, Velours de Minuit is conceived as a commanding work for dining rooms, salons, libraries and other collected interiors.

Individually painted by hand in oil on fine Belgian linen. Professional artist-grade oil pigments are applied in successive layers, incorporating expressive brushwork, tonal variation and areas of subtle impasto.

The linen is traditionally stretched over a kiln-dried hardwood stretcher frame selected for stability and longevity. Each painting is finished within a slender solid-hardwood gallery frame with a hand-applied antiqued bronze finish, allowing the artwork itself to remain the visual focus.

Due to the individually hand-painted nature of the work, variations in brushwork, pigment, texture and composition are expected and celebrated. These distinctions are part of the character of the piece and ensure that each Rouge et Ombre possesses its own individual surface and presence.

Each work is accompanied by a House of Ellory Certificate of Authenticity documenting its title, materials and dimensions.

Display indoors in a stable, climate-controlled environment away from prolonged direct sunlight, excessive heat, humidity and moisture.

Dust the frame gently with a clean, dry microfiber cloth. The painted surface should not be cleaned with water, household cleaners, solvents or abrasive materials. Avoid touching the painted linen directly, as natural oils from the hands may affect the surface over time.

For significant cleaning, conservation or restoration, consultation with a qualified professional art conservator is recommended.

When moving the work, handle it by the frame rather than the painted surface. Use appropriately rated professional picture-hanging hardware and wall anchors suitable for the finished weight of the artwork and the construction of the wall.
