The House of Ellory Standard
Our Measure of Excellence
Every piece bearing the House of Ellory name must earn its place within the collection.
We call this The House of Ellory Standard.
It is not a single specification or material. It is the measure we apply to proportion, craftsmanship, material, function, and visual integrity before a piece becomes part of the House.
I. Proportion
Before embellishment comes proportion.
A piece must possess balance, presence, and architectural clarity. Scale, silhouette, line, and negative space are considered as carefully as decorative detail.
When the proportion is right, a piece does not need to shout.
II. Material
Materials must contribute something meaningful.
The richness of velvet, the grain of timber, the veining of stone, the luminosity of mother-of-pearl, the weight of metal, or the softness of linen should never exist merely as decoration.
Material is part of the identity of the object.
III. Craftsmanship
Construction matters—even where it cannot immediately be seen.
We value traditional techniques, skilled handwork, precise tailoring, thoughtful joinery, considered finishing, and specialist craftsmanship appropriate to the piece being created.
IV. Restraint
Luxury is often found in what has been left out.
We continually refine proportion, ornament, finish, and detail until the composition feels resolved.
Nothing should exist simply to make an object appear more expensive.
Every detail should have a reason.
V. Longevity
We ask whether a piece will still feel relevant years from now.
Our intention is to create and curate furnishings that transcend a single season—objects capable of becoming familiar parts of a home and, in time, part of its history.
VI. The Final Measure
Ultimately, the House of Ellory Standard comes down to one question:
Would we place this in our own house?
If the answer is not an unequivocal yes, the piece is not finished.
That principle governs what we create, what we select, and what carries the House of Ellory name.
Made with intention. Chosen with discernment. Created to endure.
