An instrument for the well-traveled home—an antique world atlas revealed beneath the lid of a deep forest-green baby grand.

The SELAH Mappa Grand brings together the artistry of fine furniture making and the presence of a classical acoustic instrument.

Clad in exceptionally selected pale Mappa burl, the piano is defined by its remarkable natural figuring—an ivory-toned ground interrupted by expressive charcoal and espresso veining that makes every instrument inherently individual. Rather than treating the surface as decoration applied to the piano, the material itself becomes the artwork.

The raised lid reveals the collection's most dramatic expression of the burl, where sweeping dark formations travel through an otherwise restrained field of pale ivory. Quieter selections are reserved for the fallboard, architectural supports and secondary surfaces, creating a deliberate hierarchy that allows the lid and sculptural body of the piano to command attention without overwhelming its classical form.

Polished nickel-toned hardware brings a cooler, more contemporary counterpoint to the warmth of the wood, while the discreet SELAH marque completes the instrument with restraint.

Created as both an instrument and an heirloom object, the Mappa Grand is intended for interiors in which craftsmanship, music and exceptional materials are inseparable.

The SELAH Mappa Grand is conceived as a made-to-order instrument, with each piano individually finished using carefully selected Mappa burl chosen for its color, scale and natural figuring. Veneer placement is considered compositionally, allowing the most expressive portions of the material to appear across the expansive lid and principal case surfaces while quieter sections are selected for the fallboard, legs and architectural elements.

The pale Mappa finish is maintained in a sophisticated natural ivory rather than yellow, blush or pink-toned cream. Dark charcoal and espresso figuring provides the characteristic contrast of the collection, with no two instruments expected to possess precisely the same pattern.

The traditional grand-piano silhouette is complemented by a sculpted music desk, refined tapered legs, polished nickel-toned casters and coordinated pedal hardware. The SELAH name is discreetly positioned at the center of the fallboard.

A coordinating adjustable piano bench accompanies the design, featuring a tailored tufted ivory upholstered seat, restrained pale frame, adjustment control and polished nickel-toned casters. Its quieter finish is intentionally designed to complement rather than compete with the dramatic Mappa of the instrument.

Natural variations in grain, figuring, tone and pattern are intrinsic to the material and should be regarded as part of the individual character of each commissioned piano.

The SELAH Mappa is offered as a Baby Grand Piano, with dimensions dependent upon the selected acoustic platform and optional technology. A typical finished size is approximately 5'0"–5'6" long × 59–60" wide × approximately 39–40" high with the lid closed.

Piano Bench: 34 W × 15.5 D × adjustable 19–22 H inches

Each SELAH Mappa Grand is individually commissioned and made to order. From the selection and composition of the natural Mappa burl through cabinetmaking, finishing, instrument assembly, regulation and final detailing, every piano is created as an individual work.

Because of the highly specialized nature of its construction, please allow approximately 11 months for production. Bespoke specifications or particularly complex commissions may require additional time. Final lead time will be confirmed at the time of order.

Maintain the lacquered exterior using only an exceptionally soft, clean microfiber cloth and products approved specifically for fine piano finishes. Never use abrasive cleaners, household furniture polish, alcohol, solvents or silicone-based products.

The cartographic lid artwork should be treated as a decorative art surface. Do not scrub, polish or apply cleaning agents directly to the artwork.

Protect the instrument from prolonged direct sunlight and significant fluctuations in temperature and humidity. Placement immediately beside fireplaces, radiators, heating vents or high-moisture environments should be avoided.

As a fine acoustic instrument, SELAH should receive regular professional tuning and periodic regulation and voicing from a qualified piano technician. Self-player, silent and digital components, where specified, should additionally be maintained according to their respective technical service schedules.
