Rouge et Ombre is a study in color, movement and restraint, where saturated tones of oxblood, burnt sienna and earthen red emerge against passages of near-black and softened mineral blue.
Rendered with an intentionally expressive hand, overlapping forms move across the composition in varying densities of pigment, creating a work that feels at once modern and quietly reminiscent of twentieth-century European abstraction. Areas of visible brushwork and textural variation give the surface depth, allowing the character of the painting to shift subtly with changing light.
Each work is individually painted by hand in oil on fine Belgian linen, built through layers of artist-grade pigment to create depth, tonal variation and a richly worked surface. Natural differences in brushwork, color and texture are inherent to the hand-painted process, ensuring that no two works are precisely alike.
Presented within a slender, hand-finished antiqued bronze hardwood frame, Rouge et Ombre is conceived as a substantial work of art for collected interiors—equally commanding above a console, within a dining room or displayed at architectural scale.
CRAFTSMANSHIP & DETAILS
Individually painted by hand in oil on fine Belgian linen. Professional artist-grade oil pigments are applied in successive layers, incorporating expressive brushwork, tonal variation and areas of subtle impasto.
The linen is traditionally stretched over a kiln-dried hardwood stretcher frame selected for stability and longevity. Each painting is finished within a slender solid-hardwood gallery frame with a hand-applied antiqued bronze finish, allowing the artwork itself to remain the visual focus.
Due to the individually hand-painted nature of the work, variations in brushwork, pigment, texture and composition are expected and celebrated. These distinctions are part of the character of the piece and ensure that each Rouge et Ombre possesses its own individual surface and presence.
Each work is accompanied by a House of Ellory Certificate of Authenticity documenting its title, materials and dimensions.

CARE
Display indoors in a stable, climate-controlled environment away from prolonged direct sunlight, excessive heat, humidity and moisture.
Dust the frame gently with a clean, dry microfiber cloth. The painted surface should not be cleaned with water, household cleaners, solvents or abrasive materials. Avoid touching the painted linen directly, as natural oils from the hands may affect the surface over time.
For significant cleaning, conservation or restoration, consultation with a qualified professional art conservator is recommended.
When moving the work, handle it by the frame rather than the painted surface. Use appropriately rated professional picture-hanging hardware and wall anchors suitable for the finished weight of the artwork and the construction of the wall.
