A study in restraint, proportion, and permanence, Doric Study No. I captures the quiet strength and disciplined beauty of classical architecture.

Doric Study No. I is a study in restraint, proportion, and architectural permanence. Inspired by the disciplined geometry of the classical Doric order, the work isolates the monumental meeting of fluted column, capital, and entablature, transforming one of antiquity’s most enduring architectural forms into a quietly commanding work of art.

Rendered in the character of an original graphite and charcoal architectural drawing, subtle tonal gradations give dimension to the stone while delicate construction lines remain visible across the composition—a deliberate reference to the hand of the draftsman and the measured process behind classical design. Deep charcoal passages establish weight and shadow, balanced by an expansive field of warm ivory that allows the architecture to breathe.

Unlike the ornamental richness of the Corinthian or the graceful scrollwork of the Ionic, the Doric order derives its beauty from discipline. Here, that restraint becomes the subject itself. The powerful fluted shaft and understated capital emerge from the page with sculptural presence, while the dramatic upward perspective emphasizes scale, strength, and permanence.

Created as part of the House of Ellory Architectural Studies, Doric Study No. I may stand alone as a statement piece or be displayed alongside Ionic Study No. I and Corinthian Study No. I as a collected study of the classical orders.

House of Ellory Fine Art is created to be enjoyed and preserved for generations. To protect the integrity of your artwork, display the piece indoors in a stable, climate-controlled environment away from direct sunlight, excessive heat, moisture, and significant fluctuations in temperature or humidity.

Avoid placing the artwork directly above fireplaces, radiators, heating vents, or in bathrooms and other areas subject to elevated humidity.

Dust the frame gently as needed using a clean, soft, dry cloth or a soft natural-bristle brush. Do not use water, household cleaners, solvents, furniture polish, or chemical cleaning products on the painted surface or hand-finished frame.

The surface of the painting should not be wiped or dusted with a cloth. If cleaning becomes necessary, we recommend consulting a qualified professional art conservator.

When handling or relocating the artwork, lift it securely by the frame with clean, dry hands. Avoid touching the painted surface or applying pressure to the canvas.

As with all individually hand-painted and hand-finished works, subtle variations in brushwork, texture, coloration, gilding, and patina are inherent to the artisanal process and contribute to the unique character of each piece.

Professional conservation and framing services are recommended for any significant cleaning, repair, restoration, or reframing.
